Spousal and Child Support
In a divorce in Ontario, child support is determined by federal and provincial Child Support Guidelines. If parents decide to separate, not divorce, the support issues are governed by the Ontario Family Law Act.
The Child Support Guidelines define child support considering the payor's annual gross income and the number of children who must be supported. The Guidelines Table calculates the necessary amount of support that should be paid, and the exact amount for a particular divorce case can be determined by using the online Ontario Child Support Calculator.
All other expenses, including educational costs, health care, daycare, and so on, are usually divided between both parents.
